FAQs Commercial Solar

How much weight will the solar modules add to my roof, and can my structure support that?

That will vary depending on method of installation:
– Ballasted, 4-6 PSF, distributed
– Fixed, roof-attached, 2-3 PSF

What are the maintenance requirements?

Annual inspection by GFE technician is recommended to maximize output, address any possible equipment issues and secure continued safe operation of your array.

What’s the impact on roof warranties?

Generally, there are no negative impact on roof warranties. GFE coordinates with the roofing contractor to adhere to proper procedures to protect existing roof warranties. Having solar on a roof can actually protect the roof underneath the array from damaging effects of inclement weather.

What tax credits/incentives are available for solar?

Currently, there is a 30% tax credit eligible renewable energy products, so the entire installation amount is eligible.

How does hail/strong wind affect solar modules?

All Photovoltaic (PV) modules adhere to the UL1703 certification, which states that can withstand 1″ hail at 52 mph. Larger hail can damage the modules, but that would be handled by an insurance claim, and any event that damages PV modules, will likely damage the roof as well.

Will I be able to monitor the system?

All systems GFE installs provide the customer with the ability to monitor the solar production, and we encourage all clients to actively monitor thei systems to identify any anomalies that affect overall system production.
